Swim Accomplishments

Junior Year: As a Junior, Tom rostered at conference and set personal bests in all three of his events. He went 2:14.90 in the 200 Breast to finish 8th, 1:02.20 to finish 10th in the 100 Breast and 4:29.06 to finish 13th in the 400 IM.

Sophomore Year: As a sophomore, Tom rostered at conference and managed personal bests in all three of his swims, with a 2:08.20 in the 200 IM, a 1:03.82 in the 100 Breast, and a 2:17.25 in the 200 Breast which earned him a 12th place finish at the 2010 SCAC Championship Meet.

Freshman Year: As a freshman, Tom was able to set personal bests in the 200 IM at 2:08.63, the 100 Breast with a 1:04.33 and the 200 Breast with a 2:21.89.

Prep: Tom attended Bloomington High School South where he was a four year varsity letter winner. He was a member of a IHSAA Sectional winning team in 2007 and the Conference Indiana champions in 2007 & 2008.

Outside the Pool:

Tom is the current Vice President of Administration of DePauw's College Democrats as well as a mentor for DePauw's first year students and a DePauw Civic Fellow. Tom earned a spot on the SCAC Academic Honor Roll in the spring of 2010. He is also a member of the history honor society Phi Alpha Theta.

Son of Kathryn Essex & Paul Smith, Tom was born on March 17, 1990. He has one brother, Carl.
